It turns out that Netflix‘s biggest original movie ever released could have a secret new follow up project already on the way according to a new update. It’s been a big year for the streaming service as not only have they been succeeding with new releases of animated TV shows and movies, but those have been such a success that they have become some of the biggest releases with the streamer overall. This is especially true for KPop Demon Hunters, which released earlier this Summer and has been absolutely dominating every single week since its initial launch in surprising ways.

KPop Demon Hunters fans have been clamoring for more of its universe pretty much ever since it hit, and various plans for the future have reportedly been in differing stages of development. But it seems like there’s a new secret project coming our way soon as a new rating has been listed (as spotted by Discussing Film) for a new short that will be reuniting fans with its world much sooner than expected. But there are still a ton of questions in the air about what this mysterious new short could actually be.
KPop Demon Hunters Could Have a Secret Sequel on the Way
According to a new bulletin from the Motion Pictures Classification and Rating Administration, Sony Pictures Entertainment has submitted a new short titled “Debut: A KPop Demon Hunters Story” that has been Rated PG for “some action/violence and scary images.” Outside of being classified as a short form project, there are still a ton of questions about its potential release. It could be a short coming to Netflix in the near future (as it would be perfect for the spooky Halloween season), or maybe even attached to a new Sony Pictures Animation project coming to theaters in the future.
KPop Demon Hunters has also previously revealed that a sequel is now in talks with the creative team behind the first film, but naturally there are still many things up in the air with the film’s future. It’s been made clear that because of its success that Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment are excited to keep the franchise going with new projects, but those projects have yet to be fully cemented. If a new short does come our way, it would be a quick way to get more of this world as soon as possible.
What Is KPop Demon Hunters Anyway?
KPop Demon Hunters has been an absolute blockbuster release for Netflix. Not only is it still in their Top 10 Movies charts, and has been holding a spot on that list since its launch earlier this Summer, but the film has become the most watched original film ever released in the platform’s history. It was already impressive when it became the most watched original animated film ever, but then just a couple of weeks later it became the most watched original period.
Then it’s also dominated real world music charts as well. The central fictional K-pop group had landed on the top spot of the Billboard charts, and it was a huge success for the film as it was the first ever all-female group of its kind to reach that spot. Not to mention all the records it’s broken for K-pop overall. If a new secret short is indeed on the way, it’s not coming soon enough to meet that demand.
