One surprising Cartoon Network classic is making an unexpected return to TV soon, but fans are going to be surprised by where it’s going to pop up. Cartoon Network has been going through a number of changes over the last few years as not only has its broadcast schedule undergone some notable shifts, but its access on streaming platforms has changed a great deal as well. Thanks to some major removals over the last few years, it’s been getting increasingly tougher to go back and watch some of your favorite Cartoon Network shows from the much later eras of the network.

This is even more the case for shows like My Gym Partner’s a Monkey, which isn’t really lumped in with all of the other classic Cartoon Network shows from the same 2000s generation. Not only is it basically impossible to stream without fully purchasing it digitally, but it also hasn’t been a part of a traditional broadcast rotation regularly since it came to an end in 2008 (outside of one notable run). But now a new listing reveals it’s returning to television with Discovery Family beginning on Saturday, October 11th (as spotted by @CNSchedules on X).
My Gym Partner’s a Monkey Returns to TV Soon

My Gym Partner’s a Monkey first premiered with Cartoon Network back in 2005, and ran for four seasons before it came to an end in 2008. Although it briefly returned to Cartoon Network as part of the Cartoon Planet block back in 2012, that run only lasted for two years. So the show has been off the air for at least 11 years, and even longer if you were around with the original run. But as the animated series left the air, it’s also been pretty much impossible to revisit in other kinds of ways thanks to the fact it really hasn’t been put on any streaming platforms in the United States.
My Gym Partner’s a Monkey was one of the original Cartoon Network Studios shows that came in the early 2000s, but that was also a notable shift period for the network on a whole. There were a few other original series released during this time, but they are in such a grey area for fans that they are not held in as high regard as the shows from the 1990s and even earlier 2000s. Nor did they release during that renaissance of the 2010s with shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show (which are both working on revivals for a release in the near future).
What Happened to My Gym Partner’s a Monkey?

It’s not that My Gym Partner’s a Monkey was a bad series by any means, it just released during a bad time for Cartoon Network. This was on the cusp of the CN Real era that ousted a lot of these animated shows in favor of more live-action children’s programming (like Nickelodeon had done successfully around the same time), and this meant that any show also airing at the time was also largely overlooked due to just waning interest in the programming overall.
For one reason or another, that entire era has been essentially buried in terms of Cartoon Network’s wider history. It’s why that even when Cartoon Network celebrated that its shows were streaming with HBO Max when the platform first launch, My Gym Partner’s a Monkey was nowhere to be found. But now that it’s going to be airing with Discovery Family, fans will get the chance to see its episodes again.
