Six years after their last appearance, one actor from Netflix’s Defenders Saga might have just teased their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a battle against one of Marvel’s most influential supervillains. With Daredevil: Born Again season 2 already bringing back more Defenders Saga characters, including Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, there has been speculation about who else could possibly join her alongside Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the fight against Kingpin. Now, it seems Vincent D’Onofrio’s villainous Mayor of New York could be opposed by one of Netflix’s strongest Marvel heroes.

“I’d be as happy as the fans, and that’s pretty happy. If the fans are happy, then I’m happy,” Mike Colter revealed during an interview at Ottawa Comic-Con when asked about Luke Cage’s possible return to the MCU (via GamesRadar). During this interview, he inadvertently teased his return in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, which could include a battle against D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk. “We haven’t had a scene,” Colter teased. “The thing about it is, this is Vincent, but when Vincent comes on set… it’s not him anymore, he goes somewhere else, and then it’s going to be scary. So I’m kind of interested in seeing him in character, being across from him, because he’s going to be a different person. I’m probably going to be intimidated, just like everyone else. It’s like, ‘Oh, sh*t, I’m doing a scene with Vincent today.”
What Do Mike Colter’s Comments Mean for Luke Cage’s MCU Future?

\Mike Colter’s comments seem to imply that he has or is readying himself to film scenes with Vincent D’Onofrio, which could infer his return to the MCU. Colter last appeared as Luke Cage in the finale of Jessica Jones season 3, “A.K.A. Everything,” following his leading role as the titular role in Marvel Television’s Luke Cage. The entire Defenders Saga was made MCU canon in early 2024, and the return of many Daredevil characters in 2025’s Daredevil: Born Again solidified this, so Mike Colter’s Luke Cage does exist in the MCU, but we haven’t seen him in action since 2019.
Daredevil: Born Again started to explore the Devil’s Reign storyline from Marvel Comics, which saw Mayor Wilson Fisk outlaw vigilantism in New York City, affecting a huge number of superheroes. This will be developed in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, and the inclusion of more heroes, such as Jessica Jones, hints at a more comic-accurate retelling of the 2021 storyline. Luke Cage plays a huge role in Marvel Comics’ Devil’s Reign, so it would be great to see him involved in the event in the MCU, especially if this ends with him becoming the new Mayor of New York.
Filming for Daredevil: Born Again season 2 ended on July 9, 2025, but it’s possible that Mike Colter may be diverting from scenes he’s already filmed, or is scheduled to film in unconfirmed reshoots. It would be incredible to see the powerhouses of Wilson Fisk and Luke Cage battle each other in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. Not only could this finally resolve Luke Cage season 2’s dramatic cliffhanger ending, but this could also bring Marvel Comics’ Devil’s Reign to life more faithfully, and bring the legendary Luke Cage back into the MCU after his six-year hiatus.
