Warning: This article contains spoilers from the One Piece manga! As an adventure story, One Piece focuses on a long and dangerous journey across the seas, following the Straw Hat Pirates as they all have their own dreams to achieve. The crew’s final destination is Laugh Tale, the island at the end of the Grand Line that no map has ever mentioned. The only crew that ever reached this mythical place is the Roger Pirates, led by Gol D. Roger, the Pirate King. During his execution 22 years ago, Roger announced to everyone present at the scene that he had left everything the world has to offer in one place. The legendary treasure offers wealth, fame, and fortune, and anyone who can find it can claim it for themselves.

The treasure became known as the One Piece, and word about it spread throughout the world, commencing the Great Pirate Era, inspiring countless souls to sail across the treacherous seas. Reaching Laugh Tale isn’t just about someone’s powers but also their wits and a little bit of luck. The island’s coordinates can only be marked down by deciphering the four Road Poneglyphs, which are written in an ancient language that only a certain people can read, including Nico Robin, the crew’s resident archeologist. It’s been over 28 years since the manga’s debut, and the highly anticipated Laugh Tale is close, but the story still has a lot left to unravel.
One Piece Creator Confirms The Story Is Rushing To Its Finale
As one of the most popular anime and manga series of all time, One Piece is always at the center of attention during Jump Festa, the largest anime and manga convention held by Shueisha. Jump Festa 2026 closed on December 21st, 2025, after the One Piece stage wrapped up with several exciting announcements for fans to look forward to in the Elbaf Arc of the anime. Just like each year, creator Eiichiro Oda shared a long message for fans mentioning everything they need to look forward to in 2026.
Since the original message was in Japanese, the official X handle of One Piece shared an English translation where Oda briefly mentions the anime remake and the upcoming film before hyping the second season of the live-action adaptation. He talks about the manga in the final paragraph, discussing the end of the flashback and the upcoming events as things go crazy in Elbaph. He briefly mentions Laugh Tale Island, asking if we will reach the island that the Pirate Kingโs crew traveled to.
Additionally, the series will introduce several characters in the ongoing arc, and one of them is the mysterious Man With the Burn Scar, who is implied to be in possession of the fourth Road Poneglyph. Heโs the final piece of the puzzle, since the Straw Hats already have copies of three Road Poneglyphs and need the last one to determine the location of Laugh Tale. The creator also confirms that the story will be moving at a breakneck speed as the Final Saga focuses on character encounters and unraveling mysteries.
Laugh Tale Won’t Be the Final Arc of One Piece
Laugh Tale is expected to be the final destination of the Straw Hat Pirates, so Luffy can claim the title of the Pirate King. However, what Luffy truly wants is complete freedom, and the title is only going to help him in the long run. The Wano Country Saga revealed that he has another dream, which he can only achieve by becoming the Pirate King. While the series still hasn’t even given us a hint at what his true dream is, it’s something Roger once talked about but was never able to achieve.
Additionally, the secrets of the Void Century that will be unraveled on the island will change the world, depending on the choice Luffy makes. The clash of ideals triggered the Great War over 800 years ago, which still hasn’t ended, and the flames of war will soon engulf the world once again. Luffy will be at the center of the chaos and will fulfill his destiny as the second Joyboy, who has the legendary power of the Sun God Nika.
A lot of things about Luffy and Joyboy are intertwined, which is why it’s all but guaranteed that Luffy will choose to stand against the World Government, which has been terrorizing and oppressing the people of the world for over 800 years. The great war can only happen after the Laugh Tale Arc, although it’s still unclear where it’s expected to happen. The entire world will be affected by the war, and almost every major character will take part in it, meaning the manga could go on for years.
