The success of Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters has been mind-blowing, to say the least. The animated musical has quickly broken all of Netflix’s records, making its way from the streaming platform to the big screen, not to mention our hearts. While we’re still waiting on any official news about a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, it feels like only a matter of time before those announcements start streaming in. Netflix would be a fool not to capitalize on this pop culture phenomenon. While we’re waiting, plenty of fans already have some ideas and theories for what the sequel could contain, and if correct, they could have a major impact on the franchise.

KPop Demon Hunters follows a fictional girl band, comprised of three demon hunters: Rumi, Mira, and Zoey. Each one has her own unique personality, but they share a few things in common, including their love of music and their need to protect the world. Well, that and their love of snacks and couch time. The original film is only 100 minutes long, but that was enough to leave a massive impact on the community, with a 97 on Rotten Tomatoes, glowing critical reviews, and dedicated fans. Amazingly, even the songs are breaking records, hitting top lists left and right. It’s no wonder people can’t stop theorizing about what’s going to happen next.
1) There’s More to Celine’s Story

Celine is an interesting character in KPop Demon Hunters, and there’s plenty of room to explore her character further. She’s a former member of the Sunlight Sisters and the current mentor to the Huntrix crew. She’s also a parental figure for Rumi, which is full of complications in and of itself—she’s the one who made Rumi feel the need to hide half of herself from the world, filling her with fear and shame.
Naturally, fans are convinced that there is a whole lot more to Celene’s story. There are a few different theories covering Celene’s potential. For example, some fans think that Celene’s presence is meant to embody societal pressure, which could explain why some parts of her story feel vague. However, Reddit User No_Cow_7790 has a much darker theory, explaining how Celine may have been directly responsible for the death of Rumi’s mother. Their theory goes on to explore a few different concepts, including Rumi’s potential heritage (more on that in a moment), all of which could help explain why Celine may feel the need to kill Rumi’s mom herself.
2) Rumi’s Heritage

KPop Demon Hunters put Rumi’s story front and center, and that was the right move to take this story to new heights. However, we all still have a lot of questions about Rumi’s heritage. We know that her mother was a demon hunter, while her father is apparently a demon. However, no answers were given beyond this point.
Unsurprisingly, there are dozens of different fan theories about Rumi’s heritage. Many fans think that the sequel will reveal she’s Gwi-Ma’s daughter. The real question with this theory is how Gwi-Ma was not aware of Rumi if she was his daughter? KPop Demon Hunters made it seem like he was concerned about the appearance of his markings on her skin. We’re looking forward to the answer to these questions.
Alternatively, fans like No_Co_7790 believe she’s Gwi-Ma’s granddaughter. If this is true, it could even mean that Rumi’s father was human, not a demon. After all, her demon heritage would then come from her mother. In this theory, it would mean that, like Rumi, Mi-yeong Ryu used her powers for good, making the choice to become a hunter as a means to protect the world.
Either theory would provide a Hades/Persephone situation to KPop Demon Hunters, which would add layers of complexity to future sequels.
3) Jinu’s Survival

There’s a lot to love about KPop Demon Hunters, especially the characters. While Huntrix came out on top, most fans are still hoping that Jinu, and possibly even his Saja Boys, will have somehow survived. We all remember how the film ended, with Jinu heroically sacrificing himself to save Rumi. However, fans are looking for any loopholes that may have allowed for his survival.
A lot of fans believe that Jinu wasn’t killed, per se, but transformed. More specifically, they believe (and hope) that he’s now residing in Rumi’s sword. There are a few details that give us hope for this to be true. Jinu’s pets are alive and well, presumably now under the care of Rumi (as seen at the end of KPop Demon Hunters). If we assume that his pets are meant to represent Kkachi Horangi (a type of Korean folk art), it stands to reason that they would have gone above and beyond to save him. There’s also a billboard that teases a comeback, which could be alluding to the Huntrix, but fans would like to think it’s pointing to Jinu’s potential return.
